RE:CREATE
PROCESS-BASED WORKSHOP FORMAT
Re:Create is a process-based art program that uses illustration, color theory and storytelling to help individuals reconnect with their inner voice. Through guided creative exercises, participants transform personal narratives into visual form, uncovering new perspectives and cultivating self-trust. The focus is on process over product, allowing art-making to become a space for reflection, healing and transformation.
Community Healing Through Art in Hawaii
In collaboration with Temple Children, Zonta Club of Hilo, and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Hawaii, a creative residency and workshop series was conducted to support local domestic violence survivors. Participants engaged in visual storytelling, illustration, and color exploration to express their personal and collective experiences.
Documented by Nā Leo TV, the resulting collective artwork was unveiled in a public ceremony at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The piece is now permanently displayed in the lobby of the Hilo office, serving as a public statement and awareness tool addressing domestic violence.
Special thanks to Miya Tsukazaki and Temple Children, Council Members Ashley Kierkiewicz and Heather Kimball, Nā Leo TV and the Zonta Club of Hilo for their essential collaboration and support.
A documentary capturing this project will be released soon and will be available to watch here.
