The Place that Hurts & Glitters  Guadalajara, Mexico 2023

The Place that Hurts and Glitters is a collective process based workshop project. With the intention of personal storytelling and self reflection, this project aims to format a collective visual language for the group to work with in order to bring forth each individual’s personal story.

Contemplating our own life events and the stories we’ve created out of them can bring us perspective in order for us to appreciate the things that have formed us. Whether their happy or sad events, they all carry some potential for transformation which creates resilience.
Visual storytelling is the basis for the artist Ishtar’s artistic practice.

With this project Ishtar is intending to create and facilitate a safe environment where illustration, self reflection and sharing will become the means in which the participants will feel invited to explore their own stories and get artistic tools to express themselves by. She does this by starting out with a recurring series of workshops where painting and illustration as well as exploring visual form and different visual expressions in a collective group takes place. The themes are around personal experiences, memories and our own dreams.

The next step is to gather the work each individual has created in the workshops and together compose the collective piece. There are many opportunities for presenting the finished result, either through a collective mural painting, exhibition or other form of expression.
